A Baton Rouge Proposal Story | Stephen & Stormy's LSU Surprise

When love meets football season in Baton Rouge, you know it’s going to be a memorable weekend! The day before the LSU vs. South Carolina football game, I had the joy of capturing a surprise proposal that blended two families, two states, and one unforgettable “yes.”

Planning the Perfect LSU Proposal

Stephen, who’s from South Carolina, reached out to me with a sweet plan: he wanted to propose to his girlfriend, Stormy, during their trip to Louisiana for the big game. He knew he wanted an LSU backdrop — and as a Baton Rouge photographer, I was thrilled to help bring his vision to life!

At first, Stephen thought about proposing near Mike the Tiger’s habitat. It’s such an iconic LSU spot, so I sent him a few location photos. But when he realized that Tiger Stadium was right across the street, everything clicked. He loved the idea of having the stadium in the background — a meaningful nod to the LSU vs. South Carolina matchup that weekend.

It was also the perfect representation of them as a couple — Stormy’s family is from Louisiana, and Stephen’s is from South Carolina. She may have to cheer for both teams now, but that weekend, love was the real winner. 💜❤️

The Proposal Plan: A “Photography Project” Setup

To keep things a total surprise, we came up with a fun cover story. I told Stormy and Stephen that I was an LSU student studying photography and needed volunteers for a quick project due that night. They both agreed to help, completely unaware of what was about to happen!

I guided them to the spot Stephen chose with Tiger Stadium in the background. I started by giving them a few casual poses to keep things natural. Then, I asked them to stand back-to-back for another “pose.”

That’s when Stephen quietly dropped to one knee behind her.

The Big Moment

I told Stormy to turn toward Stephen— and in that moment, her expression said it all. Total shock, laughter, and the kind of pure joy you can feel through the photos.

Their friends were watching from a distance, cheering and celebrating as she said “yes!” After the proposal, we took some beautiful engagement portraits and fun group shots with everyone who came to support them.

But Stephen had one more surprise up his sleeve — more of their family from South Carolina showed up to celebrate! It was such a sweet, emotional moment filled with hugs, happy tears, and so much love.

A Weekend to Remember

And as for the game the next day? Let’s just say LSU came out on top — but I think Stephen and Stormy were still the real winners of the weekend. Their Baton Rouge proposal was heartfelt, perfectly planned, and full of meaning — from the LSU backdrop to the family surprises.
